Why I’m Changing How I Post My Blogs on Social Media

May 08, 20264 min read

Because even social media managers need to take their own advice sometimes.

There’s something funny about working in social media.

We spend all day helping clients build strategies, stay consistent, and create content that actually makes sense…

…and then somehow forget to do it for ourselves.

If social media managers were a profession in the medical field, we’d be the doctors who get sick and refuse to go to the walk-in clinic.

We know what to do. We just don’t always do it.

And that’s exactly what led to this shift.

I Started My Blog for the Right Reasons

When I first launched Magnolia Social Media, the blog had a clear purpose.

SEO.

I wanted content living on my website that could:

  • support organic search (shoutout Google)

  • establish credibility

  • give potential clients something to explore

And it worked.

The blog became a space where I could share insights, strategy, and industry updates in a way that felt more in-depth than social media.

But when it came to actually sharing that content on Instagram…

That’s where things got a little… lazy.

My Social Strategy Didn’t Match My Standards

I knew I needed to post the blogs on social.

I knew it should drive traffic.

I knew it should feel cohesive with my brand.

And what did I do?

I kept it simple.

Too simple.

I leaned into a consistent visual idea (the “post on a building” concept), which worked for a while. It kept my grid clean, recognizable, and easy to execute.

But if I’m being honest?

It wasn’t strategic.

It was just… posting.

Which is something I would never tell a client to do.

Two Years In, It Was Time for a Reset

Coming up on two years in business, I took a step back and looked at my content the same way I would look at a client’s.

And the answer was obvious.

It needed a refresh.

Not because it looked bad.

But because it wasn’t working as hard as it could.

There was a disconnect between:

  • the depth of my blogs

  • and how I was presenting them on social media

And that’s where the shift happened.

The Problem With “Go Read My Blog”

Here’s the reality.

Most people are not clicking off Instagram to read a full blog post.

It doesn’t matter how good it is.

Social media is fast. It’s scroll-based. It’s built for quick, digestible content.

So if your entire strategy is:
“Here’s a blog, go read it”

You’re already losing people.

That doesn’t mean blogs aren’t valuable.

It just means the way we present them needs to match how people consume content today.

The New Approach: Bite-Sized + Full Strategy

So here’s what I’m doing now.

Every blog will still live on my website for:

  • SEO

  • long-form strategy

  • organic search

But on social media?

We’re switching to a carousel-first approach.

Instead of just announcing a blog, I’m breaking it down into:

  • key takeaways

  • short, digestible slides

  • clear, structured insights

So you can:

  • learn something quickly

  • save it for later

  • and still have the option to read more if you want

Why This Works Better

This shift isn’t just about design.

It’s about behavior.

People are more likely to:

  • swipe through content

  • read short points

  • engage with something that feels easy to consume

Carousels let you:

  • tell a story

  • guide the reader

  • highlight your expertise

  • without overwhelming them

And if they want more?

That’s where the blog comes in.

Yes… I Should’ve Been Doing This Already

Let’s just say it.

I know.

This is something I would have recommended from the start.

But sometimes you’re so focused on:

  • keeping things consistent

  • getting content out

  • running your business

that you don’t take the time to zoom out and adjust.

And honestly?

That’s part of the process too.

What You Can Take From This

If your content feels like it’s not working, it doesn’t always mean you need to start over.

Sometimes you just need to:

  • adjust the format

  • rethink how you’re presenting it

  • meet your audience where they are

Because good content isn’t just about what you say.

It’s about how you deliver it.

Final Thoughts

This isn’t a full rebrand.

It’s a strategic shift.

The blogs are still here. The strategy is still the same.

We’re just making it easier to consume, easier to engage with, and honestly… a lot more aligned with how people actually use social media.

And yes, I will be better about taking my own advice moving forward.
